Feelgood melodic sounds from DFA to ease you into the fall pickle

Since We Last Met (Ricardo Villalobos Remixes) Digi-12
long melodic house with even longer minimal techno remixes
|
It's been pretty cool to watch DFA grow from a taste-making indie dance label into a taste-making "any kind of dance music" label. This record from NDF definitely wouldn't have fit in with the rest of their catalog a couple years ago, but is a welcome addition to their broad spectrum of current releases. "Since We Last Met" is a long, winding bit of melodic house with some melancholy lyrics about love lost (or unrequited, or... something). Speaking of things you wouldn't expect to see on a DFA release, minimal techno luminary Ricardo Villalobos steps in to handle remix duties. Long, evolving tracks are certainly not strange territory for the Chilean, and he remains true to form on his remix, which extends the original song out to a full seventeen minutes. Villalobos' beat is a bit more tentative, filled with twitchy little synth elements and an anxious one note loop that repeats under the echoed vocals. Also included is a twelve minute "edit" of his version. Recommended.
